Engine air inlet ducts. End use race car part

3D printing

As part of a race car design some complex shaped engine ducts were needed

These require good strength and resistance to under bonnet temperatures. Traditionally this would require a costly and lengthy process to: machine tooling, manufacture mould tools, and finally from this, manufacture composite ducts.

We were able reduce cost and lead time, by directly 3D printing the end use components in glass filled nylon. This represented a huge time and cost saving for the customer and the parts have proved reliable and durable in a harsh under-bonnet environment.
